Bequests

Your gift can make a difference for future generations.

The Cancer & Bowel Research Trust receives no government funding and relies entirely on support from the community. Your bequest can allow the organisation to commit to long term projects, leaving a generous and much appreciated legacy for future generations. Our research and accommodation programs particularly rely on long term and significant funding, and bequests allow us to budget for these programs for extended periods of time, ensuring that the best possible services are offered to the Australian community.

How do you leave a gift in your Will?

There are several types of gifts that can be left in a will.

  • Gifts of a specific amount. If you wish to leave the Trust a specific amount of money, please list that gift in your will. The following clause is our suggested wording. Cash gifts are extremely valuable to the Trust, as the money can be used towards a range of projects that are undertaken from time to time. Gifts that are so generous that they allow us to fully support an entire project can be named in honour of the donor, such as naming of a Patient Acommodation residence, or a particular research project.
I give devise and bequeath to the Cancer & Bowel Research Trust of PO Box 142, Goodwood SA 5034 ("the Trust") the sum of $________, which sum shall be directed to such specific or continuing programs as a responsible officer of the Trust sees fit and I declare that a receipt from a proper officer of the Trust shall be a complete and sufficient discharge to my executors of their responsibilities hereunder.
  • Gifts of a specific item. If you have an item you would like to donate through your will, please describe that item and your intentions clearly in your will. The following clause is our suggested wording. We appreciate that personal items have significant value to loved ones, but there may be items which have no sentimental value, but still have objective value which could be utilised or realised by the Trust. All such donations are gratefully received. If a donor is able to donate a house or residence which could be used as Patient Accommodation, we would honour the donor by naming that residence in their memory, creating a generous, lasting, and significant memorial.
I give devise and bequeath to the Cancer & Bowel Research Trust of PO Box 142, Goodwood SA 5034 ("the Trust") _______________________________, to be used for such purposes as a responsible officer of the Trust sees fit and I declare that a receipt from a proper officer of the Trust shall be a complete and sufficient discharge to my executors of their responsibilities hereunder.
  • Gifts of part or all of the residue of an estate. Many donors wish to leave a series of specific gifts to their loved ones in their will, whether they be items or money, and donate anything left over to their chosen charity(s). A gift of the remainder, or part of the remainder, of your estate, once all other specific gifts have been made can be made using the following suggesting wording. Whether this amount is small or large, all such donations are gratefully received, and reflect the generosity of the donor.
I give devise and bequeath to the Cancer & Bowel Research Trust of PO Box 142, Goodwood SA 5034 ("the Trust") ____% of the value of my residuary estate, which sum shall be directed to such specific or continuing programs as a responsible officer of the Trust sees fit and I declare that a receipt from a proper officer of the Trust shall be a complete and sufficient discharge to my executors of their responsibilities hereunder.

While it is possible to draw up and execute a will independently, we encourage anyone wishing to make a will to either seek formal advice, or, if their intentions are fairly simple, use a template will to record their wishes. We also strongly suggest that they make their wishes known to their family and friends, to minimise any disputes that may otherwise arise. These two precautions will give the greatest chance of the intentions behind the will being honoured.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of leaving a legacy, please contact our office on 1800 350 480.
