Cancer & Bowel Research Trust Privacy Policy

Cancer & Bowel Research Trust is a non-profit organisation which raises vital funds to support both external and internal cancer research projects, fund the purchase of equipment used at both treatment and diagnostic levels, provide patient accommodation and manage and conduct ongoing awareness and prevention campaigns into bowel cancer.

Cancer & Bowel Research Trust understands the importance of protecting each individual's right to privacy. We are bound by, and commit ourselves to, compliance with the provisions relating to privacy and to collection, use and disclosure of personal information set out in;-

We have a number of reasons for which we may obtain your personal information, including:

How and when we collect personal information

This information may be collected through face-to-face interactions, telephone conversations or through electronic communication. We may have obtained this information via:

Fundraising programs, including events that may have been run by members of the public with proceeds benefiting Cancer & Bowel Research Trust Use of our services or facilities When you purchase a product or submit a grant application If you take part in a survey or research project Employment opportunities

This information may then be used for a number of reasons, including:

To seek your support for our programs To contact you about similar services or programs in the future To maintain financial records relating to donations To invite you to special events or inform you of our progress and achievements

We won't use your information for any reason beyond that for which we first obtained it unless it's reasonable to expect the information would be used for such a purpose, you agreed that we could use it or it isn't sensitive information and we are using it for our marketing purposes.

When personal information is not collected by the Trust

Please note that for instantaneous donations where you have made a small donation and either received a pre-printed receipt immediately or refused a receipt, no information is obtained.

Security - keeping your personal information secure

All personal information is kept secure. Physical data is kept in a secure location to which only authorised Management has access and electronic data is protected by passwords and other access restrictions.

Access to personal information to a third party

We will only provide personal information to a third party when we are required to do so by law, in the interests of your health or safety or with your consent.

Destruction of personal information

Once information is no longer needed, it is all securely destroyed.

Of course, at any time, you are welcome to contact us to find out what information we may have relating to you. If for any reason we're unable to provide you with this, we will let you know why. If you know that any of our information is incorrect, please let us know and we will update our records immediately.

Complaints

Any complaint made to the Cancer & Bowel Research Trust, or to an officer or employee of the Trust other than the privacy officer, that is related to privacy or to our use of personal information is to be referred forthwith to the privacy officer. Any person dissatisfied with the handling of a complaint by the privacy officer may make a written request to the Board of the Cancer & Bowel Research Trust to have the handling of the complaint reviewed.

At Cancer & Bowel Research Trust we understand the importance of protecting your privacy and we are committed to complying with the Privacy Act and the National Privacy Principles. A copy of our Privacy Policy is available on request.

As such, Cancer & Bowel Research Trust will only collect personal information that is necessary for us to fulfil our functions or activities and will use only lawful and fair means to do this.

At any time, we are happy to enlarge on the reasons we have taken the information and disclose to you any information we may have. Should we be unable to provide you with some or all of the information we hold, we will inform you as to why this has occurred.

At no time will we disclose personal information to any third party except as required by law, nor will we use it for any unreasonable purpose or purpose wholly unrelated to the reason for which we first obtained the information.

All personal information is kept confidential. Only approved Management staff have access to personal information and appropriate electronic and physical protection is applied to all personal and sensitive information. Once we no longer require personal information, it is securely destroyed.

Sometimes we may be required to give some personal information about you to other organisations to comply with our legal obligations. Examples of such organisations are our auditors, the Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink or Government accommodation subsidy agents in relevant states.
